San Juan de Pirque is a single vineyard parcel in the Alto Maipo Valley, planted in the 1980’s via massal selection. Situated at 3,200 feet altitude in an ancient dried tributary of the Rio Clarillo River, irrigation here is via classic Maipo flood technique. Winemaking here veers towards the “natural” spectrum: all wines are fermented with native yeast, see no additions of any kind, very little new wood, and are low in sulfites. Punch downs are by hand, and pressing is done in a small traditional basket. Rich, full bodied powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.
